Community LomoAmigo Cindy Tan AKA cyanwater shoots with the Lomography Fisheye 2

Not only is cyanwater one of our most active lomographers, camera testers, and a very cool person, she is the very patient winner of the Fisheye Lomo Amigo Competition. So read on after the jump to get an insight into the woman behind the camera.

Name: Cindy Tan
City: Singapore
Country: Singapore
LomoHome: cyanwater

Tell the community a little bit about yourself?
I prefer to shoot, not to be shot. You’ll find me hiding behind my camera most of the time. I guess my pictures speak louder than me. Pictures don’t lie but words do.

What do you do for fun and is it the same thing you do for a living?
I shoot analogue for play and digital for work. A toy camera shop owner on weekdays and a wedding photographer on weekends. Somehow, business is pleasure!

How long have you been a Lomographer (or are you new to this whole thing)?
My best friend got me my first Lomography camera, the ActionSampler in 2001. That’s like almost a decade ago! I did not shoot enthusiastically until I met Jimmy in 2006 and formed a local lomography community in Singapore . It’s where we share our love for experimental photography and exchange tips with fellow camera fanatics. We’ve been organising outings, competitions and exhibitions over the past 4 years. They are the people who kept my passion alive till today.

Describe the Fisheye in five words.
My life is never square.

How did you like shooting with the Fisheye and what did your friends think about your analogue camera?
I love how the Fisheye distorts reality. The pictures it produces never fail to surprise my friends. So far, I’ve given 4 Fisheye Cameras to my friends on their birthdays! It’s a fun and simple camera to start off with.

The strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/ Lomographic encounter that you have ever had.
I was asked to shoot a concert for a local band–Electrico, solely with Lomography cameras. Of course, I brought the Fisheye Camera along!

If you could shoot any person alive or dead (or imaginary) with your Fisheye, who would it be and why?
My kid (in future). I love shooting kids as you can probably tell from my pictures.

If you could travel anywhere in the world with your fisheye and your gear, where would that be?
Russia! That’s the origin of the Lomographic phenomenon.

What’s your favorite photo you took with the Fisheye and why?
This is one of my favourites. I took this shot specially for the Amigo Rumble. Simply love how the angle of the sun complement the shot.

If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please).

  • Common Colors in the Air by Aspidistrafly
  • Deep Love by Mandalay
  • Hail to The Friends by Electrico

What got you into photography at the first place?
I did photography back in Design School many years ago. I never really pay attention to the technical aspects which is why I love Lomography. Don’t worry about any rules!

Your advice to future Fisheye shooters.
