Summer Hot Spots: A Morning Sunbath in Varazze

This is the story of my first adventure on the beach this year. In the middle of June, I took my first sunbath along the seaside on a small public beach in Varazze - a rather small and unkempt place which I will never return to in the future. Read more to find out why!

This article is about my adventure in a tiny public beach in Varazze, a seaside town in the region of Liguria in northern Italy. The public beaches there are rare and very small because the coastline is almost entirely occupied by private bathing establishments, which are quite expensive.

After spending my first day visiting the city of Genoa and the beautiful town of Portofino, and night in a hotel, I decided to take a sunbath in the morning before returning home. I asked for the price in a private beach: they wanted more than €30 for three people! I refused their crazy prices and walked towards the small public beach. Here in the first photo you can see the access, a steep concrete ramp, surely uncomfortable for older people!

In the photos below you can see this place which is enclosed between two adjacent private establishments.

Fortunately, in the month of June, the Italian beaches were still uncrowded. Therefore, I easily found space in between a few other sunbathers.

As you can see from the photos above, the private beaches of Liguria are characterized by very little space between umbrellas, even in the off season. I honestly think that for the prices charged there should be guaranteed wider spaces.

The day was rather hot and humid, beginning in the early hours of the morning. The cabins on either side of the public beach blocked the morning breeze, too! So after a short sunbath, I decided to take a walk on the shore towards the port.

Meanwhile, other people yet with pink skin and looking forward to their first sunbath (like me) have arrived at the beach!

Overheated by the strong bubble of heat, I decided to leave the beach at around noon and return to the hotel to pick up my bags and go home. Bye!
