Yuletide Holiday Destinations: Time to Visit Malta!

If you are searching for a mix of art and culture on a wonderful island in the Mediterranean Sea, and if you're trying to escape the cold winter of the North of Italy of other European regions, you might want to visit Malta. In this article you can see some photos taken with my "poor man Leica", the wonderful Zorki 6! Take a look!

Malta is a small country located in the center of the Mediterranean Sea. The country is composed of some small islands; the big one hosts the capital Valletta and the former capital Mdina; other interesting islands are Gozo and Comino, with their beautiful beaches and a wonderful nature. In the first photo, you can see a street of Valletta:

The local language is Maltese, but every people know very well the English language (and many people known the Italian language also), so there are no difficulties visiting this country as a foreign tourist. In the second photo you can see some words of the Maltese language (this is the headquarters of a local political party in Valletta):

The main streets of Valletta are all descending and leading toward the sea. In these streets, you will find many shops selling souvenirs and local crafts.

Don’t miss the Cathedral and the Palace of the Knights! And for the little ones, there is always a lot of fun with a fountain placed in the main square!

The telephone box and the mailbox in Anglo-Saxon style remind us that Malta was part of the British Empire from 1814 until 1964. In this country, you must drive on the left, as in England!

Under the classical monuments you can find some nice local artist!

In this country, there is an excellent bus service (from the period of the British Empire), which enables you to reach every locality: don’t forget to visit the ancient capital of Mdina, in the center of the island!

The capital city of Valletta has few hotels, and so I decided to stay in Sliema, a seaside resort few kilometers from the capital, where among other things you can take a nice walk on the sea promenade, or, on a warm day, take the opportunity to sunbathe on the rocks.

Here you can find many nice restaurants!

My preferred Maltese food is the stewed rabbit; called “fenek stuffat” in the local language! Try it!
