Summer Hot Spots: The Beauty of Mount Semeru

Nature is beautiful no matter where you are. And if you always find yourself going to the beach every summer, why not change things up a bit, something more challenging and adventurous? Read my suggestion after the jump!

Summer is the time of the year when everybody is in search for a new destination to visit. If you are a nature lover, here is a hot spot that I would like to recommend!

It called Mount Semeru and it is located in the Bromo Tenger Semeru National Park in East Java, Indonesia. The reason why I choose this mountain is because at about 3676 meters above the sea level, Mount Semeru is the highest mountain in Java Island. Naturally, this mountain provides great scenery, and many beautiful spots to visit while you hike it.

The journey to this mountain took about 4-5 hours by truck from Malang City. You have to stop at the first post to register yourself if you are to hike this mountain. After that, you will have to go on by foot.

We arrived on the second post and spent about 3-4 hours in a place called Ranu Kumbolo Campsite, which had great lake. After a tiring journey, Ranu Kumbolo is much worth it, I swear ;)

At this place, there’s a famous route, and people called it Tanjakan Cinta, meaning the ‘climb of love’. The myth told that if you walk through this route without looking back and while you imagine the woman/man you loved, she/he will be yours for the rest.

After a night in Ranu Kumbolo Lake, we moved to the third post which was about 2-3 hours away. It’s called Kalimati Campsite. Because Semeru Mountain is still an active volcano, you can see a rain of volcanic ash (if you are lucky).

Kalimati is actually the last of the posts because going to the summit is forbidden. The hazardous smoke of this volcano is dangerous. However, hikers usually disobeyed it, and still pushed through.

After some experiences and issues, the hikers now know the right time to go to the summit. The hazardous smoke from the volcano will reach the summit by 10:00 AM so the hikers should be on their way down before that. It’s totally safe if you follow the time. So, every hiker must prepare at the midnight before, because the journey to the summit takes about 5-6 hours.

Me and my friends went to hike starting midnight because we wanted to see the sunrise from the top. We’re lucky that we arrived there before 5:00 AM and see how beautiful sunrise from Mahameru (the summit) looks like.

Well, that’s the end of it. Let’s pack your carrier, and prepare to go to this beautiful place! It’s worth it!
