The Wanderlust Wonderlist: Notable Stops on the Fairy Tale Route

I’m sure that growing up, we’ve all heard at least one fairy tale by the Grimm brothers. But did you know that in Germany, there is a tourist attraction called Fairy Tale Route made in their honor?

The Fairy Tale Route in Germany is a 600-kilometer route that was originally established in 1975, starting from Hanau (birthplace of the brothers) in Central Germany and then going north to Bremen.

The route passes along locations where the brothers lad lived and worked, as well as spots that are linked and/or served as an inspiration to their tales. Here are some of the notable stops:

Hanau

Located 25km east of Frankfurt, Hanau is a town in the state of Hesse famous for being the birthplace of the Grimm borthers, Jacob and Wilhelm.

Fairy Tale House, Alsfeld

Despite modernization, the town Alsfeld still retains its the typical medieval town layout. For this stop on the Fairy Tale Route, you are taken to the Alsfeld Fairy Tale House where you can immerse yourself with a variety of tales as well as their history.

Bad Oeynhausen

Mostly known as a spa town, Bad Oeynhausen also houses a museum devoted to fairy tale and local folklore.
