Solo Photowalk Routes: Street Artists in Milan

Although spring is late in coming, I have not renounced my walks in search of photographic subjects. In this case, in a long walk from Porta Venezia to Piazza Duomo in Milan, I dedicated my time to capture some nice street artists. Just watch!

In a cloudy spring day, after I have visited the exhibition of Doisneau at Spazio Oberdan in Milan, I decided to take a long walk in the direction of Piazza Duomo, from the gardens of Porta Venezia. I had just left the place of the exhibition when I found this nice street artist, struggling with his bowling.

With my little Olympus 35 RC, I took some photos while she was performing on the pedestrian crossing in front of the car waiting for the green light.

In a city where everyone in a hurry, even in a Sunday day, fortunately there is always someone who turns up curiously!

A bow before the green light closes the short performance of this artist, who must perform the show in a few handfuls of seconds!

Within few seconds, the artist seeks some coins among the car drivers, and the money is deposited in her hat!

After about a minute, as soon as the traffic light turn red for cars, the show is repeated, often with some variations, like this hat launch in the air!

Leaving the street artist to her work, I went through the gardens of Porta Venezia, where I found some Easter stalls, carousel and some public games.

My walk ends near Piazza Duomo, where I have found another good street artist performing with a glass sphere, in an exercise of juggling that requires high precision and a total body control.

The public parks of Milan and Piazza Duomo are great places for a lomowalk: there are monuments, like Castello Sforzesco near Simplon Park and the Cathedral in Piazza Duomo which are very interesting for architectural photography. And, if you are interested in people and street photography, there are many public events, like sports demonstrations or other public events, street artists and many stalls, especially during Easter or Christmas holidays!

For this series of photos I used a film Ilford HP5+ developed in Rodinal and pushed to 640 ISO to have a better contrast, since the day was overcast and with low light.
