Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain. Located on the Manzanares river in the centre of both the country and the Community of Madrid (which comprises the city of Madrid, its conurbation and extended suburbs and villages); it is the third-largest city in the European Union, after London and Berlin.
As the capital city of Spain, seat of government, and residence of the Spanish monarch, Madrid is also the political, economic and cultural centre of Spain.
Madrid is a beautiful city to behold, and it’s much more spectacular from a bird’s eye view. A couple of ways to do this is to ride the cable car (el Teleférico) or from the roof terrace of the Circulo Bellas Artes building.
When you’ve had your fill of the cityscape from high above, it’s now time to touch the ground and start wandering!
For the savants and the bibliophiles, you can do an adventure around the city and check out the different independent bookshops. There’s a lot littered in the streets of Madrid and they have their own brand of charm to bring to the table!
On the other hand, for the kids-at-heart and those who crave their daily dose of adrenaline, you can head on to the city amusement park!
But if you’re in the mood for a lazy day — lounging around, strolling around, or perhaps even setting up a nice picnic – then Parque del Buen Retiro is the perfect spot for you. As one of the largest parks in the city, it provides a lot of sights and space, enough to provide you with a nice and relaxing experience.
Of course, at some point, a person’s gotta eat right? Well, you might want to check out Taquería del Alamillo, a pleasant place located in the corner of Plaza del Alamillo, and nearby Plaza Mayor and the Oriental Palace.
