On my last trip to Columbia, I visited the colorful village Guatapé. This beautiful and amazing place, close to Medellin, is more than worth a visit!
This little gem is located about an hour and a half out of Medellin. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a day of peace and quiet.
Guatapé has lots to offer, some sights even more spectacular than others. As soon as you enter the town, you can’t help but be overwhelmed by the brightly colored houses.
A short ride in a cheerful taxi will take you to La Piedra Del Peñol, or more commonly known as “The Rock”, a 220m high monolith. The view from the top is incredible! The daring and adventurous can choose between climbing the rock or rappelling down.
Even transportation is beautifully decorated.

Located next to the village is the reservoir, where you can enjoy a boat ride.

Guatapé can be reached from Medellin by bus, though renting a car may be more comfortable. Take your time to visit this fantastic place, there’s lots to be seen and done!
