Sometimes, all you need is just 20 minutes of "me" time to recharge your batteries before handling the next big ticket item on your to-do list at work or at school. Here's where I go for a quick break when at work.
Nobody is a robot, but unfortunately, some bosses and customers often think you are. One simple trick that I learned is to take a break before tackling the next big task at work. This is a proven formula for me.
Consider the story of the woodsman constantly hard at work sawing down trees. After a long and tiring day, he noticed that his companion who was also sawing trees had sawed more trees than he did. Puzzled, he asked his friend how he was able to saw down more trees even though he rested so much. His friend replied that even though he was resting, he was sharpening his saw.
Likewise, I do encourage you to sharpen your saw frequently throughout the day. It works. But where can you go to recharge your batteries? For me, one of the places is a playground near my office in Siglap, Singapore. When the weather is good, I’ll just head over there with a drink in hand.
And just rest while looking at the playground’s designs.
Interestingly enough, I often get inspiration on how to deal with a project that I’m working on during such “me” times.
So whether you’re working or still studying, do try to find pockets of time for yourself. It can do wonders to your productivity at the end of the day.
