Versailles and its Delightful Sights

The Palace of Versailles is one of the most impressive achievements of 18th-century French art. It is not only a place bursting history and culture, where you can appreciate art and beautiful architecture, but there you can also contemplate nature, slow down and relax, away from the fast rhythm of the city.

Last August, I spent one week in the charming city of Paris with some friends. In one of those days, we decided to catch the train and go to Versailles to visit the historically famous Palace. As soon as we got there, we were amazed by the huge and glamorous Château. We looked at the golden gate ahead and our mind started wondering which surprises would be behind it.

The place is divided into four main locations. There is the Palace itself, where the King´s Grands Apartments are, as well as the famous House of Mirrors and the Museum of the History of France. Outside, we have the Gardens, where a vast number of sculptures, beautiful fountains, and flowers can be found. Ahead, there is the Grand Trianon, made by Louis XIV to escape from the rigid formality of court life, in the company of his Mistress.

And finally, the irresistible Marie-Antoinette’s Estate, a piece of heaven on earth, created by her to meet the rural activities and simple pleasures, moving away from the pomp and etiquette of the Palace.

We were really lucky because at that time, there was an exhibition of Joana Vasconcelos, a very talented Portuguese plastic artist, and the first woman and youngest contemporary artist to exhibit in Versailles.
You can see some of her amazing work in the photos below.

The Palace has many things to see and one day is just not enough. I hope I can come back there in the future to see more of the wonderful Versailles.

Have you ever been there? If not, I sincerely recommend that you visit it one day!
