Winter Wonderland: Temple Newsam Park, Leeds

Temple Newsam is a great park in Leeds to go for a day out. Easy to get to and full of beautiful countryside and wildlife, it is well worth a visit.

A few weekends ago, on a particularly icy Saturday up in Leeds, my other half and I decided to take a walk to Temple Newsam Park on the outskirts of Leeds (Selby Road, LS15). I haven’t really been to Temple Newsam before, despite living here over 8 years now. There is quite a bit to do at the park, including a petting zoo/farm, a tea room and a Tudor mansion with 40 restored rooms. You can hire the venue for things like weddings and I think the park would make a super backdrop for the wedding snaps.

The park itself consists of fields, woodlands and pathways and it is the ideal location for walkers and to take the children to play. It is just beautiful in the winter when all the colours are lovely and autumnal still, and there is a thin layer of ice on the ground. It is also a lot quieter at this time of year, when the weather is not as good and people are hiding themselves away.

Luckily for me and Dave it was a quiet day when we visited and this gave us the ideal opportunity to have a play with some our favourite camera and film combinations. I even had a go at improving on my double exposures (with a bit of guidance from Dave!).

If you get a chance then I highly recommend a visit to Temple Newsam, although the parking can be quite expensive, so I recommend public transport, or as I have seen a lot of people do, park far away and then walk!
