It may sound strange but Bangkok is an ideal short city getaway for me; strange because I already live in a city. So why would a city boy like me want to visit another Asian city? Why is Bangkok city such a draw for me?

When I travel for leisure, I’m always more interested in how the locals live. That’s why I enjoy visiting the local eateries, checking out the supermarkets, finding out where they go chill out, and just to roam the streets and meet some locals.

Now that I’m shooting film again, the allure of Bangkok’s streets is irresistible. This city is a street shooter’s paradise, where colors jump out at you, where life’s vibrancy can be seen, where the entrepreneurial spirit of the people are everywhere. And film brings out these so well. This is why I enjoy visiting Bangkok so much. It’s simply full of energy and life.

But there’s another reason why I like to visit Bangkok: it is also a shopping paradise, if you didn’t know it already. Here, as a photographer and a shopper, you can have the best of both worlds. You can shop ’till you drop and you can shoot ’till your thumbs are sore from manually advancing the film.

Naturally, I kept an eye out for 35mm films, especially those that I’ve not tried before. Luckily, I found some shops selling them in Siam Square shopping area. In fact, I came home with another stash of films. Throw in the fact that the Lomography Gallery Store in Bangkok is conveniently located at Siam Discovery Shopping Centre, you really don’t have to worry about not having enough film to shoot.
