This summer I was lucky enough to spend two weeks touring around Bulgaria with three other people in a brand new Chevy! Over the next few articles, I am going to share with you some of my photos from that trip, place by place. One day we took a trip from Sofia to Mount Vitosha.

We had a bit of an unfortunate start to the day when we tried to visit Vitosha as the taxi took us to the bottom of a gondola, which only runs on a weekend when it is not ski season (we went on a Tuesday). Therefore, there was a period where we were stranded halfway up. Luckily a nice local man agreed to take us a bit further up so that we could have a bit of a walk around in the sunshine and get a great view of Sofia from high up.
The view was amazing and we were lucky to go up on such a clear and bright day as you could see for miles and miles. With it being out of season, there were not a lot of people around and I quite enjoyed this so it was really quiet. Obviously this meant that there weren’t any people that we could follow or ask for directions so quite a bit of time was spent with the boys trying to figure out which way to go.

We were also fortunate to stumble upon the loveliest place to eat about half way down and near the line of the chair lift. Unfortunately I have no idea what this place was called but it was like a Bavarian style place, like a ski lodge. With all wooden panels and a water wheel outside, it was like a real cozy countryside place and the food was amazing, as you can see from one of the photos below.
Vitosha is easy enough to access from Sofia as it is just to the south of the city. You can take the metro to James Boucher station and a cab from there to the chair lift is about £6. If you can find the restaurant we ate at, I highly recommend it!
