Finding Color on the Blue Ridge Parkway

The Sprocket Rocket and Lomo LC-A are great companions for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to find some color in the landscape of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Asheville, North Carolina.

At the end of October, I took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a road that stretches through the mountainous landscape of North Carolina. I didn’t travel anywhere near the entire 469 miles of the parkway, but I did spend time at each scenic outlook point between Asheville, North Carolina and the highest point in the United States east of the Mississippi— Mount Mitchell State Park in Burnsville, North Carolina. My goal was to capture the fall foliage, the blue ridges of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the great blue sky on a clear day. I used my Sprocket Rocket loaded with Fuji 200 CN film to capture the blue hues.

I really loved the pictures that came from my LC-A loaded with Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 film, with the ISO set to 50. I got such a variety of hues in the hills, trees, and sky. I wished that I had spent one more roll of redscale film after seeing the results compared to my roll of Lomography CN 400 film.

The next trip through the mountains, I am definitely taking a variety of film in order to capture each beautiful view in as many colorful shades as I can.
