End of Summer: One Day Tour to Koh Tao and Koh Nangyuan

Koh means 'island'. Koh Tao and Koh Nangyuan are islands situated about 70km north of Koh Samui, Thailand. These islands are famous for diving and snorkeling.

Last summer, I went to Koh Samui for a holiday with my boyfriend. We were attracted to the beautiful photos of Koh Tao and Koh Nangyuan that we saw in a newspaper and on the internet so we decided to join a day tour of the islands.

Our trip to Koh Tao and Koh Nangyuan was by speedboat. The sea that day was rough, and the ride was bumpy. Many tourists in the boat were not feeling well, but luckily I survived the whole ride. I would recommend a high-speed catamaran for people who easily get sea sick.

The boat ride was about a one-and-a-half to two-hour ride before it reached its first destination, Koh Nangyuan. Koh Nangyuan is composed of three tiny islands that are connected by one beach of golden sand. It consists of a large mountain and two smaller ones. It is a good spot for snorkeling and sunbathing for tourists who’ve come for a day trip. There is a view point in Koh Nangyuan, which was a 10-15 minute walk up the hill. I trekked to the view point and the view from there was breathtaking and I was amazed by it.

The second destination was Koh Tao. Koh Tao is also known as “Turtle Island”. Koh Tao was named after the island’s turtle-like geographic shape. It is one of the popular places for divers in Asia. One can snorkel here as well. The water is crystal clear. We had Thai-style buffet lunch, which is included in the tour package at the ocean-front restaurant. It was a good experience to have my meal while looking at the blue sea and sky.

After lunch, everyone was back to the speedboat and transferred to the sea, which is just a few minutes from Koh Tao for snorkeling. It was a hot day so it was great to jump into the sea to cool off. I enjoyed soaking in the water. It was fun to see the fishes swimming below me.

Koh Tao and Koh Nangyuan are definitely worth a visit. I am glad that I ended my summer with a great tour to these beautiful islands.
