Summer is ending, and what better way to spend the rest of it than to surf or at least be at a beach, right? Well, that's what my friends and I did! Join us by reading after the jump!
San Juan, La Union is a well-known surfing area in the Philippines. The waves in La Union are not as big as the ones you see in movies and that’s what makes it good for beginners.
It was peak season, when we went there and there were lots of people both in and out of the ocean. The number of people in the water made it challenging to surf. There were times that you would have to maneuver yourself to avoid hitting anyone or you would need jump off your board at the right time to avoid a head-on collision.
Occasionally, you’ll be awarded with a clear path and it would be worth all the waiting and paddling.
Even on seasons with good waves, timing is still important. There are times when the waves make it seem like Poseidon’s giving you a beating (from a beginner’s point of view), and there are times when the waves make you feel like you were born for this.
On bad weather conditions, people usually go to other surf spots with better conditions. There are quite a number of surf spots in La Union, each with its own set of challenges.
And because the area is popular among all kinds of surfers, the area is also packed with a variety of resorts, from high-end to more budget friendly accommodations.
Aside from surfing, the people are generally kind; There is an association of veteran surfers in the area who guide and teach beginners, they are friendly and really easy to talk to!
The fun doesn’t end there, if you visit their bars/cafes at the end of the day, I guarantee you’ll have a great time!
Give La Union a try!
I’m pretty sure you’ll love it as much as I do!
