End of Summer: Memories of David Hockney

One of my favourite artists was exhibiting at the Royal Academy and I just had to go! We've made the trip to London to especially see Davids Hockney's exhibition, "A Bigger Picture". I have been following his work for a while now and love watching documentaries of him painting.

We decided to try and get in on a Saturday, only to be welcomed by a 3-hour queue. We returned early Sunday morning and joined the line, eagerly awaiting our audio guides.

As this was set in the Royal Academy, I was unsure if I would be able to get a photographer’s pass as I would usually do at other museums and galleries. So I decided to go stealth. I loaded up my LC-A with a fresh roll…or so I thought!

I have been to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park previously to see a great exhibition by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. His sculptures set against the beautiful Yorkshire greenery were certainly a sight to see, it definitely made an impression on me.

A few weeks later, I picked up my shots from the developers; it seemed like some shots were missing, I imagined that it must have been my fault, they didn’t turn out and then forgot about it.

This little roll of film was set to make another trip to another standout exhibition. This time in London! I had been making doubles all day and didn’t even realise it. I’ve got to say, when I got the photos back, I was gutted. Some of the doubles don’t work for me, but as singular images would have been OK. Overtime, I have decided some of the shots I do like. It’s also encouraged me to be more organised about what I’m shooting!

Do you have any accidental doubles that have turned out to be a nice surprise?
