In the unlikeliest of places, hidden away from the bustle of Auckland Central, is a place where foodies can do anything from enjoying a relaxing coffee and French pastry to doing their weekly food shop.

La Cigale is nothing if not versatile. Most of the time it is a boutique French food shop and cafe. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, a bistro restaurant and on Saturday 8am – 1.30pm and Sunday 9am-1.30pm a farmer’s market surrounds the main cafe and shop.
I frequent the farmer’s market the most, it’s always a busy place, but the produce is wonderful. Fresh and mostly organic.
Other things to love and indulge in are the breads, olives, pates, quiches and other savories…
…though the most irresistible are the sweets, chocolates, and lollies.
Once the shopping is over though, there is excellent coffee to enjoy and all kinds of pastries, savories, and other classic French cafe food…
