The Dock Kitchen: An Amazing Fusion of Food and Design in London

The place where you can eat and marvel at the exquisite design jewels. I was always a big fan of Tom Dixon’s designs. You might think you don’t know who he is, but you have definitely seen his iconic lamps everywhere – those reflective balls in bronze and silver. So after I’ve done some “Googling”, I discovered that there is a restaurant above his shop as well. I just had to check it out.

Found in a converted Victorian Wharf building as part of an urban regeneration project by Derwent London, The Dock Kitchen overlooks the Grand Union Canal in Ladbroke Grove, West London.

The original brick arches and beamed ceilings have been preserved and combined with an exclusive display of the full Tom Dixon collection of furniture and lighting to create an honest, open space in keeping with Stevie Parle’s food. The Tom Dixon shop resides directly beneath the restaurant housing pieces from over a dozen international designers.

I had an amazing soup, which didn’t look like a soup at all because it was white and had rose petals and pomegranate seeds in it, a delicate explosion of the color, in other words. I don’t remember what my main course was because I was completely preoccupied with trying to steal my friend’s main course, which was an Iberian pig shoulder. After being a vegetarian for 11 years (I stopped that 2 years ago), I never thought such thing can be so delicious! It was so tender and the sauce was fantastic.

One thing to be aware of is that this is not the type of place where you wait for your drinks forever. Here, drinks fly. This place’s policy is to make people drunk cause it brings more revenue, so be careful! Although it’s difficult, the wine list is amazing, with all the countries covered – from Slovakia to Austria.

The desserts are a must try! Rosewater sorbet with cherries poached in sumac and mastic, fig and almond tart or salted caramel ice cream. Mmm…yummy.
