Lomography

I love London because there is so much to see and do and photograph there. At every corner there is something worthy of a frame or two, but my favourite place to capture photos is when I exit from the Westminster tube station. Read on to find out why.

Westminster tube station stands on the bank of the River Thames and can be accessed via the Jubilee, District and Circle lines. It doesn’t really matter then, which exit you choose to leave from, because each exit out onto the street boasts a beautiful view of some of the most iconic landmarks in all of London. These are the areas that most tourists flock to London to have a look at, and can be spotted all around the area having their photos taken with this beautiful area as a backdrop.

Firstly, if you exit the tube station away from the river, you not only come out to find 2 lovely pubs (the names of which have totally escaped me) but you also get this side view of Westminster Abbey, which is somewhere I really must visit at a later date.

Then of course if you turn left towards Westminster Bridge, you get to see Big Ben towering in front of you. Big Ben is a nickname really and refers to the tower that holds the clock, at the end of Westminster Palace. This is the largest 4-faced chiming clock in the world and is also incredibly old – about 153 years!

Then of course Westminster Palace, which contains the Houses of Parliament, runs down the side of the Thames towards the Hungerfood Foot Bridge, and can be viewed in all of its glory from Westminster Bridge.

Westminster Bridge is a pedestrian and vehicle bridge connecting this area to the South of the River Thames, where the London Aquarium, London Eye, and other attractions stand. On the bridge however, it is nice to stop and take in your surroundings, namely the street artists, iconic red buses, and statues, such as Bodecea.

If you had exited the tube toward the river, or if you choose to walk around the way I have suggested above, you would first of all see the London Eye across the Thames, which is worthy of a lot of photos as it really stands out.

So this for me is the best part of London, from a photography perspective and one that I will keep going back to with different camera and film combinations, to capture it in all its glory. It also presents a great view during night time.
