Pia do Urso: A Walk into Nature for Everybody

Near the town of Batalha, there is a small village of reconstructed houses with a path through the woods, which makes for very pleasant sunny afternoons.

This is Pia do Urso. Hidden in the middle of the mountain, this village of picturesque houses is ideal for anyone who likes fresh air. The houses were all rebuilt using the same parameters of old buildings, and they are just perfect for any kind of photograph.

The walk through the woods is quite easy, and you can make it in one hour or two depending on how much film you want to spend! It has a lot of trees and shades, so you probably would do better using a higher ISO film, but I used a Lomography X-Pro Chrome and Lomography Color 100, and the photos still turned out fine!

Along the way, there are stations that talk about different themes through experiences. They even have a station called the “Abstract Station”, but to me, they all looked quiet abstract! Furthermore, they have wooden animals everywhere, that despite of being a little damaged, are still quiet funny. Apparently bunnies are great friends with chickens, you can see them together all over the place!

If you’re not afraid of stepping out of the beaten path, there is a parallel path that leads to two windmills that are very worthwhile due to the amazing view up there.

Besides all that, for those who are into sports, outside of the village there is a post with car parking, showers, maps, and other stuff for those who enjoy the pleasures of biking in the mountain.

They were so fast I almost didn’t catch them!
