Right outside of Austin is a hidden jewel known as Hamilton Pool. Many locals come here to beat the Texas heat. This popular swimming hole is a result of a collapsed grotto. Even during a drought, water continues to run into Hamilton Pool.
I was ready for my first Hamilton Pool adventure! I was beyond excited to escape the city for a day of hiking, picnicking, and swimming. To capture this excursion on film, I grabbed my Spinner 360, Sprocket Rocket, and Fisheye 2 with my underwater housing, then headed out. The hike was short and was filled with colorful wildflowers, ancient fir trees, and streams. When you first see Hamilton Pool, it’s a beautiful feeling. You immediately know that you’re somewhere special. Instantly, I knew it would be a fun and relaxing day! The sound of the waterfall is incredibly soothing and on a hot Texas day, you can really appreciate the cool creek waters!
Here are some good tips for anyone planning to go:
- call ahead to make sure it’s open
- get there early to ensure entry
- bring cash to get into the park, $10
- if you choose to also hike at Pedernales River, pack some sneakers
- bring a towel to sit on
- the water is clear enough to use an underwater camera
- bring a floaty, if you like to float!
Hope you enjoyed seeing my pictures! Make sure to share this with all your Austin friends and visitors!
