Magic Island: Perfect for Sunset Gazing

Magic Island is, contrary to assumption, not an island. However, it is a manmade peninsula that has been built as an attachment to a beach park. Its recreational value is amazing, so read on to find out more!

Magic Island is probably one of the more visited beach areas in the Honolulu area of Oahu, Hawaii. Most of the visitors are locals, instead of tourists, because this park attracts a more casual crowd. Unlike the extremely popular Waikiki Beach, Magic Island is a laid back environment, perfect for picnics, swimming, running, taking a nice stroll, or even fishing.

The park’s hours are sunrise to sunset, when the parking gates close to prevent overnight camping. The area, with its close vicinity to the downtown area, can be prone to having homeless folks late at night.

However, right before sunset is when the magic happens. The area is full of locals just relaxing and sharing stories with family and friends. Sometimes there are exercise groups working out in circles on the large expanse of field. Other times, there are friends taking photos of the sunset and themselves smiling. My love and I sat down on the rock wall, facing the amazing sunset – it was truly beautiful!

The rays of sun just slipping behind the horizon make for a perfect, mysterious photo environment. Golden hour, which is a great time for photos, is fantastic in Magic Island. A large part of its popularity is due to the fact that Magic Island is really big, with tons of space (with lots of grassy area) to do whatever you wanna do!

The grass under your feet is perfect for running around barefoot in, and the park is always clean and well manicured.

In fact, one of my favorite photos were taken at Magic Island. We found small patches of flowers, and decided to lie down and relax amongst them. Above is a shot of my tiny feet and the flowers.

Magic Island is a local favorite and will continue to be that way for years to come!
