Quaint Beauty: Manoa Valley

One of the most beautiful natural spots in Oahu, Hawaii, has got to be Manoa Valley. With lush greenery, traditional houses, an old-world charm, and unlimited areas to relax in, Manoa is unforgettable.

Manoa Valley, located around the upper Honolulu side of town, is known for being one of the older neighborhoods on Oahu. The people living in the area have been around for years and years. It’s a pretty common sight to see elderly folks on their daily walks – they’re usually really nice and sweet to talk to, too. Another fantastic thing about Manoa is that the weather is usually a bit rainy…BUT that also makes for an incredibly green, lush, and beautiful scenery along the valley.

Strolling through the sidewalks is never boring. The flowery trees always bloom as the year progresses, and in the spring, Manoa’s full of them. They fall off and decorate the paths quite nicely, too.

Because Manoa Valley is so full of lush greenery and trees, it’s fun to try out double exposures. There’s just something about contrasting nature with people.

Sadly though, there has been some construction going around the valley lately, so big, bulky trucks have been quite a common sight. These trucks sometimes obstruct traffic, so policemen are sometimes seen directing contraflow traffic in and out of the valley.

Manoa Valley Marketplace, which is the center location for stores and shops in the valley, actually has one of my favorite noodle places on the island – Nishi Moncho Ramen. My love and I always frequent this place, with its small, hole-in-the-wall charm, and order their thick udon noodles with spicy tofu. Since Manoa is pretty quaint and quiet, this noodle place is such a plus in my book.

Since I go to college in the area, it’s always a great time to go exploring around the area. Manoa Valley has many small parks, little schools, incredibly beautiful houses, and lovely natural surroundings. I absolutely adore the area.

In fact, one of my own favorite photos of all time was taken in Manoa Valley at one of the public parks. The grass seems to go for miles, and the broad mountains border the photo quite beautifully.
