We all know that Starbucks has pretty much conquered the consumerist world. However, since my friends and I spend so much time at Starbucks, I have taken many of my Lomography photos there - so it's a place near and dear to my heart. This article will be a short survey of the various cafes my friends and I frequent around Oahu.
I admit, I am a coffee addict. And quite honestly, I will also admit that just because Starbucks has grown to be the size of a behemoth powerhouse, doesn’t mean that their coffee isn’t great…but it actually is pretty good stuff.
My friends and I are in college, so we spend many hours studying after class or between work hours. The best locations are cafes, hands down – plenty of tables and chairs, caffeine, and jazzy music – a great equation for good studying. Starbucks is no exception.
In high school, my friends and I always went to the Starbucks in Waimalu – this cafe is known for its exceptionally large area, with more chairs than most cafes. There’s always an open table, which is so important, especially during finals week.
My love used to live in Hawaii Kai, so the Starbucks in that area would be our weekly small group location, with a bunch of friends from church. We’d grab coffee and meet up to study the Word and have great fellowship. The cafe is a lot smaller than the Waimalu location, so it’s a bit difficult to find seating. Our group’s favorite spot would be the leather couch at the back of the cafe.
I live in the Waipio area, which also has a Starbucks. Interestingly enough, this cafe is where I had my first job, ever! So there are many memories from this location. This Starbucks is one of the 3 locations in Hawaii to have a drive-thru. It’s really convenient, and pretty fast as well – I should know.
In town, the Kapahulu Starbucks is probably my favorite location. This store is right next to Waikiki, the Honolulu Zoo, and my school, the University of Hawaii at Manoa. It’s simply perfect. But I guess good things find their way around, because it’s always packed! Finding parking and a seat is a battle in itself….
Let’s face it, Starbucks has made its permanent mark in our world, even across the continents. And I don’t think it’s leaving anytime soon. These locations are some of my favorites and most memorable, and I’m sure that I’ll be taking many more photos to share here, in the future. Lomo on!
