Yuen Long Tin Hau Festival

Tin Hau Festival falls on the 23rd of March of the Lunar Calendar, there are big-scale parades all over Hong Kong. As this year is also the 40th anniversary of Yuen Long's Shap Pat Heung, the size of the parade is unprecedented!

As Hong Kong used to be a small fishing port and the inhabitants are mostly fishermen, before they head out to the sea, the fishermen would pray to Tin Hau, the Goddess of the Sea, for a safe return.

All the parade contingents will gather and set off from Yuen Long’s Fung Kam Street, passing by Kau Yuk Road before reaching Yuen Long Stadium. The public can watch Lion Dance performances at the stadium. After the parade contingents had completed their performances, they will offer their prayers at Yuen Long’s Tin Hau Temple. The annual Hong Kong festival is a great opportunity to learn about local traditional cultures. On the day itself, there are a lot of foreign visitors enjoying the performances!

On the next 23rd of March of the Lunar Calendar (2nd May 2013), please join me in this cultural celebration and partake in the Tin Hau Festival parade!
