Catching Up with Nature at Barry Curtis Park

Every now and then, I find myself drowning amongst paperwork, e-mails and computers. Urban life can be suffocating and at times, all I want to do is break free and have a one-on-one with nature. When these 'episodes' arises, my favorite thing to do is take a stroll in the park, equipped with a bottle of water, and a camera.

Barry Curtis Park in South East Auckland is fast becoming my slice of heaven. The park is located in the heart of Flat Bush and is over 94 hectares. It has many features such as an education center, themed playground, and an amphitheater for events. But my favorite would have to be the extensive walkways that lead to various wetlands, ponds, sculptures, and tree plantings.

On days when I am feeling more adventurous, I chose to take a path less traveled and wander away from the pathways. This has gotten me lost a couple of times, and I had acquired some scrapes and bruises due to the uneven surface and unruly plants, but it is all part of the fun!

The park is very accessible and is suitable for just about everyone. Sporty individuals can go for a quick run around the park, parents can take their kids to the playground, owners can take their dogs out for a walk, and photography enthusiasts (like me) can take their cameras out for a shooting session. There are many points of interest and you will not run out of subjects to shoot.

And FYI – wear sturdy shoes – unless scrapes and bruises is what you are looking for. :)

The Diana F+ is a new twist on the ‘60s classic cult camera. Famous for its dreamy and soft-focused images, the Diana F+ is now packed with extra features such as panorama and pinhole capabilities. Available in our Online Shop.
