The Atlantic Sea plays a very important role in Portugal’s history and culture. In Minho, the pleasant weather and aged villages result in the perfect combination. The moment I return to my country, this is the city that I want to live in: Viana do Castelo.
This city is too perfect to describe through words so I decided to honor it with a “soneto”.

Surrounded by a green humming mountain
We find a historical and enchanted city
Its streets lead to a square with a fountain
And sounds remember an old ditty
The granite façades with tiles
Can tell us magical and beautiful stories
Interesting details give us smiles
They tell us about great glories
A city of lovers Sea and River
Lost in time and eternal love
When they kiss reflects silver
Nostalgic tradition in black and white
Colored craftwork and tasty cooking
This is a little of Viana do Castelo’s sight
Charlie Chaplin would love this city, certainly.
