Island in the Sun: Ubud, Bali Island

Ubud is a remarkable town in the middle of Bali Island. It is a relatively tranquil and peaceful place compared to all other tourist spots in Bali. Being an island and despite of its sandy beaches, there are also scenic mountains and beautiful villages in Bali. Ubud has been Bali's center for fine arts, cultural dance, and music for more than a century ever since it has been discovered by tourists.

It is popular globally among backpackers, as Ubud has a very strong character. It attracts people from all around the world who are actively involved in art and nature, music and dance, religion and architecture, etc.

Ubud in my opinion, is the best place to be based in while visiting Bali; be it from the cultural, natural or inspirational points of view. Ubud is surrounded by most of Bali’s tourist attractions, the paddy fields, small villages, art and handcraft centers, ancient temples, rivers, hills and greenery. And it’s central location makes it easy to get from Ubud to the volcanic mountains and beaches.

There are plenty of interesting things to see and do on the main streets, but the real Ubud is under the surface. Most of the magic of Ubud is hidden away. In the backstreets, backwaters, courtyards and cafes. In people’s hearts, minds, and dreams. The real Ubud, the real Bali, is awaiting to be discovered.

For people who’ll rent a car or a motorcycle, exploring Ubud and its surrounding areas is a blissful joy. Hiring a car with a local driver is undeniably a good way to save time and hassles as the roads are slopey, branched, and usually narrow.
