At the heart of Seoul

Like every city in the world, in Seoul city center, you can find the most important institutional buildings in the city, like the City Hall, and other business and commercial buildings. Among these tall modern structures, you can also find the most famous historic palaces in the city.

One of the main avenues begins in front of Gwanghwamun gate in Gyeongbokgung Palace, that I have already mentioned in this article.

The most popular point in the avenue is called Gwanghwamun Square after the mentioned gate. There is a statue representing King Sejong The Great, who was the fourth and most famous king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea.

There, like in the rest of the city, traditional symbols are mixed with modern ones. The popular Haechi was chosen by the Seoul Metropolitan Government as the Mascot of Seoul City and it is used at public events and festivals.

This mascot is based on a mythical animal, half lion and half dragon, that is represented in several points of the city palaces like Gyeongbokgung.

We visited Seoul in January and there was an ice skating rink near the City Hall building. This area is very busy so there were a lot of people enjoying ice skating.
