The Colors of Little India, Singapore

Let yourself get lost in the twists and turns of Little India, which is bursting with colors, ethnic fragrances, and scrumptious street food.

Singapore is a tiny city-country but if you look more closely, there are places that will draw you in again and again. Little India is at the top of that list for me.

Little India is one of the most vibrant and culturally authentic districts of Singapore. Take in the sights, sounds, and smells, you’ll find that its charm lies in the fact that many olden-day trades can still be found by the roadsides and alleys.

I love the gathering of fortune tellers, roadside stalls selling flower garlands, incense, and jewelry shops. You won’t be able to resist entering the beautiful, colorful fabric shops trying to sell you Indian saris; or the inviting fragrances of the curry shops.

After lots of walking, I was looking for a place to sit down for a cold drink and chanced upon The Countryside Cafe on a small street. I settled for a mango lassi (traditional Indian yogurt-based drink) and a good book from the shelves of the cafe and rested ’til I was ready to walk again.

How to get there: Take the northeast MRT line to Little India Station and exit at Racecourse Road.
