Visiting An Open Air Japan Tourism Fair

Japan is one of the countries that I want to visit. However, I don’t think I’ll be able to travel to Japan anytime soon. So the next best thing I can do to discover Japan without leaving my shores is to visit Japan tourism fairs and events such as the Japan National Tourism Organization's outdoor art exhibition at Singapore’s Orchard Road.

Held from January 28 to February 26 outside Singapore’s Ngee Ann City, this is definitely a different type of tourism exhibition. Instead of the usual booths and brochures being distributed to locals and tourists alike, 54 giant playing cards, the size of movie posters, have been placed along the street for all to see. These posters represent iconic scenes of every prefecture in Japan.

According to the Japan National Tourism Organization in Singapore, this pack of larger than life playing cards is pending the title of the largest pack of playing cards by the Guinness Book of World Records.

And the biggest of them all is a four-metre tall poker card.

Yet, there’s more to see than just looking at the giant playing cards on display. You can pretend to be on a bullet train and have your photo taken.

Or you can just pretend that you were in Japan.

If you’re interested to find out more about Japan, there is a covered booth where you can go collect some brochures.

Apparently, there are live Japanese performances on weekends. However, I was there on a weekday. Even so, I did manage to spot a ninja.

Hip shot!
