The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a must while in New York. Its extensive collection spans the history of the world and has something for everyone while also offering a beautiful setting for some great people watching.
Located on Fifth Ave and 82nd street is the renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art. Its permanent collection contains over 2 million pieces ranging from ancient to the contemporary and covers about four city blocks. It can be a bit overwhelming if you try to see it all so it is best to pick a few galleries that sound interesting and then just wander around to other works that catche your eye.
My favorite route upon entering the main hall is to take the stairs up to the 2nd floor and hang a left at the drawing gallery, this will lead you to the 19th Century Modern and Contemporary Art galleries that will lead to the 20th Century artworks. This is where you will find some of the big name artists like Van Gogh, Monet, Pollock, John, etc.
Remember that The Met is closed on Mondays and although the prices are suggested, it is nice to give what you can for admission.
