Abandoned Railroads

Here's a different look at what can be seen as a "patch of greenery" - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And the Ewa Beach Historic Railroads in Oahu, Hawai'i definitely holds a vast amount of beauty within its seemingly desolate borders.

I believe that beauty can be seen in everything, even the unfortunate or the mainstream-deemed ugly. It’s just about perspective, about seeing what can glow brightly in a world surrounded by darkness everyday. So when I mentioned the Ewa Beach Historic Railroads to my best friend Kayla, we both knew that this location would be a great landscape to capture a titanic amount of underestimated beauty.

Located in the Leeward town of Ewa Beach on Oahu, Hawai’i, the Historic Railroads is a newly-restored train track that provides visitors with tours around the town. The tour highlights the main plantations and their remains from the early days of Hawai’i’s development. Every Sunday, visitors are welcome to ride the train and learn about the history of the area.

Kayla and I went to the area to take photos on a day when the rail wasn’t running, and boy, did we get some amazing results! The day was cloudy, so I used my trusty LC-A+ with its built in light meter, and shot some Fuji Sensia 200. The blue and greens are extremely bright, which I personally think looks amazing contrasted with the neutral tones of the rubble and gravel.

The Lomo LC-A+ is known worldwide for its amazing features: automatic exposure, extended ISO range, and multiple and long exposure capabilities. Get your own Lomo LC-A+ now!

The Ewa Train Yard is fun and they let you into see the old trains for free. One of my favorite places to test a new camera.
