Woodthorpe Grange Park: My Favourite Patch of Greenery

Woodthorpe Grange Park has something to offer for everyone and being local to me makes it my favourite patch of greenery. Read on to find out why I like spending so much time in my local park come winter or summer.

Woodthorpe Grange Park is a fantastic local 22-hectare park on the northeastern edge of Nottingham with lots of features to keep you coming back come summer or winter. It’s an impressive large green space on the edge of the city and only a five-minute walk from my home. Although accessible by foot or bike, there’s also a car park for those who need it and being close to both the city and the main road, it’s in a convenient location.

Within the park is a 19th century grade II listed manor house called The Grange, which sits amidst a mix of formal gardens, green houses, and wooded areas. The greenhouses rebuilt in 1994 provide the vast majority of the flowers for Nottingham in Bloom and tours can be arranged with the nursery manager.

For the sports enthusiasts, there’s an 18 hole pitch and putt golf course open daily from 10am and football pitches often used for the local boys’ teams. The less energetic can enjoy the sunken garden complete with water feature and tropical house housing a variety of plants and trees.

The park also had some redevelopment recently with a brand new playground for the kids including all-new equipment and landscaping as well as a new environmentally-friendly building featuring a cafe and toilets where you can enjoy a freshly-made coffee prepared by fully-trained baristas.

Being local and open all year round, I’m a regular visitor and especially enjoy taking my little one to the park. It’s a great place to take your camera too with a changing landscape throughout the year from the wild flower meadows in the spring and summer to the amber coloured leaves littering the paths in the autumn and winter.

The park really does cater to everyone, so if you find yourself nearby, then be sure to pop in and discover for yourself why it’s my favourite patch of greenery.
