Every year the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix sets up a 2km racetrack in the middle of Copenhagen. For a whole weekend, old classic race cars will be roaring through the streets of the city center putting thousands of people down into a time warp full of vintage cars, adrenaline, and design.
Classic car enthusiasts will be competing in seven classes divided into time, engine sizes, and designs with a guaranteed action-packed program. The program also allows paid trips around the track with the money raised from this event going to the Copenhagen University Hospital which is located next to the track. Kids from the cancer department also get a free ride.
There are three bridges crossing the track and seven seating areas but it’s also possible to walk all around the track, watching classic and new cars on display, race teams preparing and repairing. Teams include classic car enthusiasts, famous pro drivers (national and international), and Danish royalty.
This event is a great opportunity to travel back in time with your vintage camera and capture vintage cars pushed to the limit filling the air with the smell of petrol, burned rubber, and a defeaning sound. So if you happened to be in the area in August, it is definitely worth checking out.
