My Most Memorable Travel Escapades of 2011

I traveled quite a lot in 2011, mostly in Iceland. I want to share with you the most memorable moments. I hope you'll enjoy reading and checking out the photos as much as I enjoyed remembering my trips.

In spring of 2011, my husband and I had several trips. The beginning of March was kind of stormy. We both love the ocean, big waves, and windy places, so one Saturday, we packed some sandwiches and hit the road. We traveled by the coastline enjoying great views and empty roads. The wind gust reached 35 m/s at some places.

In the end of March, we had one more memorable trip to the National Park of Þingvellir. Winter was still trying to show off, but you could already feel that spring was in the air.

In June, my mother and niece came to visit us. We decided to travel around Iceland. I was able to persuade my guests to visit some lighthouses on our way.

It wasn’t easy to travel with my family. Believe me, we aren’t a good combination. Even though we love each other very much. All of us have strong characters, but somehow we made it through. I believe that Iceland’s amazing nature helped us to make peace. In the middle of our journey, we rented a little cabin next to the lake. We ate good food, played instruments and games, and paddled in the lake at midnight.

In July, my husband and I traveled to the north of Iceland to the nordic coastal culture festival, “Sale Husavik”. We had great time there:

But the most beautiful memories from this trip are these:

We heard that there is a lake somewhere in the mountains not far away from town so we decided to find it. Well we found the lake, but the way to it was, was more impressive than the destination itself. Lupines were covering each mountain. The mountains were purple.

In August our friend from Austria came to visit us and we traveled again:

This time it was more easygoing and relaxed. On our way home, we got into a volcanic ash storm. It was really strange and of course memorable. I still blame myself for not taking more photos.

In October, I had a short work trip to Helsinki. On my free time I managed to sail to Tallinn. I had the most tensed three days of my life. I slept 2 to 4 hours everyday just because I wanted to see as much as possible in a such short period of time.

There were many more trips in 2011. I think it was a great year for traveling. But I have this feeling that 2012 will be even better.
