Beijing welcomes you! Let's take a tour of the Beijing Olympic Green! The largest venue at the Beijing Olympic Green in terms of seating capacity was the Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest. It can hold up to 91,000 spectators and was the site for the 2008 Olympics' opening and closing ceremonies.
Beijing National Aquatics Center, also known as the Water Cube, is an aquatic center that was also built exclusively for the games, alongside Beijing National Stadium in the Olympic Green for swimming, diving, and synchronized swimming competitions held in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Many people just take pictures from the outside instead of paying into the stadiums. I was one of them. LOL. Nevertheless, the queues at the entrances were very long since the Olympic Green is now a major attraction for visitors from all around China and the world. It is not just about stadiums, there were so many different parks and buildings all around.
In order to get into the area, there’s a security checkpoint right before entering.
The official motto for the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games was “One World, One Dream”. However, the saying “Beijing Huan Ying Ni (北京欢迎你)”, which literally means “Beijing Welcomes You” from the official song, has a greater reputation among the public for the Beijing Olympics.
Getting there – take Subway Line 10 and get off at Beitucheng Station. Then interchange for Subway Line 8 and get off at Olympic Park (Olympic Green).
Did I forget to mention that taking a subway ride in Beijing was extremely cheap? So don’t forget to make use of the service to get you around when you’re in Beijing!
