Innsbruck, Austria

Innsbruck is situated on the western side of Austria, in between the German and the Italian border. You could practically be in three different countries in less than half a day. It is the capital of the state of Tyrol.

Elevated at about 550 meters above sea level and nestled in the heart of the Alps; despite being a true beauty with Alpine landscape and snowcapped mountains being spotted practically everywhere in the city, Innsbruck definitely has so much more to offer.

Comfy hammock at the backyard with lots of lovely plants!

Innsbruck is surrounded by tall mountains: Nordkette (2334m) at the north, Patscherkofel (2246m) and Serles (2403m) at the south. The river running through the city is by far the CLEAREST river that I’ve ever seen in my life. It is so crystal clear – imagine that it actually made me feel like jumping into it and drink the water directly from the river! Well, I wasn’t really that thirsty, it was just a weird, but strong urge. LOL.

Innsbruck hosted the Winter Olympics twice – in 1964 and 1976. Due to its geographical location, Innsbruck is very famous for its winter sports. Additionally, with the old city center and its historic churches, monuments, museums, and galleries, Innsbruck has gained the reputation as the most popular Austrian holiday destination after Vienna and Salzburg. It offers a totally different sensation that you would get from Vienna and Salzburg.

Trams make getting around the small city quick, cheap, and efficient. As I said, it’s a small city, so the best way is still by walking if your main purpose is just to explore the city center and you’re not going into the mountains. I was there in late April and that was spring! Yay! Though without all the winter sports, as the snow was already melting, I simply enjoyed the views and the atmosphere there. Went for a picnic in the mountains, had an international dinner with my local host, lying on the hammock for the whole afternoon just enjoying the scenic views at the backyard, those were good memories. I wish I could be there once again!

Sit back, and relax! :)
