A burning hot charcoal factory experience that ignited my inspiration for a few snaps. The visit to the factory was awesome, as it opened my eyes to a lot of new things that I didn’t know before.
I stepped foot on this interesting place last year, located right in the middle of a spectacular mangrove forest in Matang, Kuala Sepetang. My colleagues and myself drove for 2-and a-half hours down from Petaling Jaya to this old town near Taiping, where charcoals were produced. Our journey locating this place was filled with adventure as we found ourselves driving in circles and constantly stopping for directions.

These igloo-like structures are all handmade without any architecture drawing design. When we found out that these were simply built “out of memory and experience”, we were super impressed!
The process of charcoal production is an irony – it is simple and yet complicated. Basically the logs are just brought inside and heated but because the most important factor of the whole production is the right temperature, the process has to be monitored 24 hours a day.
We’re so glad that we manage to find the place; it was pure satisfaction, as we were awed by the existence and maintenance of such a large charcoal factory. Too cool! This is definitely going into my books of unforgettable experiences.

Impressive. ;) I really love the picture of the sun rays flooding the logs with tints of lights.
