Cameron Highland is the largest and one of the most famous hill retreats in Malaysia. The must-see attraction at Cameron is to make a trip to one of the tea plantations on the highland. The most famous tea garden is the BOH tea plantation.
BOH Plantations Sdn Bhd is the leading tea grower in Malaysia with four tea gardens and constituting a total land area of 1200 hectares. With a production capacity approaching 3000kgs per hectare, the company produces 4 million kgs of tea annually which translates to about 5.5 million cups per day. Just stop and think on that for a minute… 5.5 million cups of tea per day!
BOH Tea Plantation is a must-visit place when you are in Cameron Highlands. Scenic, tranquil, and cool fresh air! The road journey to the BOH Tea Plantation is quite an adventure itself. Going in from the main road leads to a windy narrow road which took almost 20 minutes. Do give a honk or two while negotiating a corner to let oncoming traffic know there is a car coming. It gets kind of fun to honk the horn after a while!
Put narrow roads aside, the view of green rolling hills with the neat regular rows of tea plants, is truly breathtaking and refreshing! Many a time, you may want to stop your car and just walk in the tea plantation and pick some tea leafs yourself! There is also a lookout point on top of the plantation which offers great views and a perfect tea time and chill-out place.
The Sg Palas BOH Tea Plantation offers a free guided factory tour of how the tea leaf is processed. Don’t miss it if you’re in the highlands!:)
