Kenyir Lake is the largest man-made lake in Southeast Asia, which is located at the state of Terengganu, Malaysia.

The reason why Kenyir Lake was formed is because of Kenyir Dam, which is a hydroelectric dam that started construction in 1978 and was completed in 1985. Rivers have been blocked by the dam, water started to rise and formed the lake. The lake covers a large area and contains a lot of islands. Before, mountains and hills can be found there as well.

This is the home of a lot of flora and fauna, especially fresh water fishes. Fish species such as Kelah, Kalui, Kelisa, and Toman can be found in this lake. So, with all kinds of fishes, fishing lovers should love this place.

This is home for hornbills too. There are a total of 26 species of hornbill in the world and 9 of them can be found in Kenyir Lake. Other than hornbills, a lot of bird species can be found around the area, such as eagles, pigeons, kingfisher etc. I did enjoy bird watching here, in the fresh and cool morning. Walking around the area in the morning is a great activity.

Kenyir Lake also offers unique scenery. As it is a man-made lake, before it became a lake, it was a forest with hills and mountains. The trees died after the water level rose, and those dead trees can still be found there. Since some of the trees are quite tall, its body and branches can be seen about the water and creates a great, scenic, view.

When I was there, I just felt relaxed, free, and at peace. It is totally different from the beach wherein the sea waves create noise. Around the lake, you can only hear birds whispering, and wind slowly blowing. My mind was just totally free.
