Travel Express for San Pedro de Atacama

On a weekend trip I made a while ago, I met San Pedro de Atacama, which is in the second region of Chile. I've always wanted to go there but never had the opportunity so I was very happy when I was able to do so. I took the LC-A + and Supersampler, which served as my traveling companions.

During the trip I met various natural attractions – and barely off the plane I started to take pictures:

Salar de Atacama, Laguna Cejar y Ojos del Salar:

The Salar de Atacama is a dry lake full of salt, it’s awesome, and half of it is the “gap Cejar” which still has water. This lake is well-known because anyone can float in the turquoise water as it contains too much salt and lithium – among other minerals, which makes you float. I remember they told us that we had to be very careful with our eyes, and when we dived into the water, we understood the reason for the warning, the water was very cold and stung our eyes lol…

After we got out of these waters, which leads to the “Eye of the Salt Flats” (two freshwater pools) where you rinse off the salt, but it was so cold that you cannot get in there so we ended the day watching the sunset in another area, which is at the Salar de Atacama. It was magical, full of lights, and people.

The geothermal field is 4200 high in the Cordillera de los Andes, which comes out in the morning creating a higher temperature steam. “Fumaroles”, hot water flows but the temperature was so cold up and generated a wire smoke wherever there were craters. That’s why we went out as early as 4:00am to get to know them; the magical moment was when the sun rose right there and is when you get to see the vents and the water jump. There is also a lagoon that has warm water where people can take a bath.

On our last day, we took a tour by these lakes, which are many meters as its name in the highlands; where the scenery is spectacular, no one else, only animals and ourselves…these lakes also has stunning colors.

Beautiful place! I was once in a similar place, but in Bolivia, in the south of the Salar de Uyuni, near of the Laguna Verde... loved it! :)
