There are less popular but more awesome things in Johor Bahru that you can do.
Johor Bahru is a small place in Malaysia that is a stone’s throw away from Singapore. Singaporeans love to head over there for cheap shopping and eating on the weekend but there’s so much more to it than that.
Stroll along the less crowded streets – away from the shopping centres. Do something quirky, like jump at the traffic lights or take a group photo at the abandoned playground! Stroll around the rows of private housing; say “hello” to the poor pets who’ve been left at home by their owners (while they have fun in town).
When the heat starts to get to you, duck behind the small alleys to have some dessert at a roadside stall! Have a chat with the stall owner, perhaps he would share with you some of his stories or even offer you dessert on the house!
Wind over to Dhoby Road or Jalan Dhoby, where the old bakeries, rustic coffee shops, and laundry stores are. There are sometimes performances or hawkers selling snacks and knickknacks there.
If you’re tired, catch some rest at Roost Café. It’s sandwiched between a row of shops in a back alley of Dhoby Road. They play really cool indie music, serve awesome drinks, and have very beautiful décor, not to mention a lomowall!
