Here is a place that is not far from where I live. A beautiful house with fantastic surroundings

Gawthorpe Hall is set in the woodlands and beautiful gardens on the banks of the River Calder. The hall was built in the early 1600s and was the home of the Shuttleworth family until 1970 when it was handed over to the National Trust.

In the 1840’s and 1850’s Charlotte Bronte, who was a friend of the Shuttleworth family, was a visitor to the hall, and the ‘Bronte Way’ walk starts in the grounds of this beautiful building

Today, the hall is home to the world famous Rachel Shuttleworth collection of embroidery and textiles. These beautiful pieces of work are shown in the galleries in changing displays throughout the season.

In the grounds, the Great Barn has been restored to its former glory and is available to be used as a performance space or for wedding ceremonies. Events take place throughout the year from the National Trust plant sales to Civil War re-enactments.
