24 hours in Paris

An hour's ride from London and world's apart from where I live, is Paris.

Bonjour! Merci! Je’taime – armed with these three words and a small duffel bag of clothes for the weekend, I boarded the Eurolines bus from the coach station, and braced myself for the 8-hour long bus ride from London to the wonderful city of Paris.

The first destination was the famous Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. From a distance, I could already see the tip of it. How magnificent yet humble it looked! Alas, it was as expected, crowded with tourists.

Then, a stopover at the renowned Lourve for museum-viewing and lunch. Architecturally, the building puts me in awe, and apparently a lot of other people seemed to think the same. Strolling through the aisles and looking at artwork after artwork, I began to regret only spending a day in Paris. The exorbitant hotel rates in central Paris put me off and persuaded me to make Paris a day trip. However, one could spend an entire day in the Lourve, needless to say much longer in Paris! When would I find time for the other attractions? But the tickets had been bought, and I was due to head back to London in the evening.

So on I went. Finally, the last and most anticipated attraction:

La Tour Eiffel. It was a long queue to the ride, and a long ride up to the top, but it was worth every minute. As the clock struck 8, disappointment overwhelmed me as I realised it was time to head back.

I’ll be back, Paris. Soon.
