24 in Puerto Princesa

How do you make your birthday celebration truly epic? Take a trip to one of the premiere islands of your country with the love of your life. In my case, I flew to Puerto Princesa for some island hopping, R&R, and yes, canoodling.

I’m not exactly sure why I was obsessing about making my 24th birthday extra special. Maybe because I just got out of college. Maybe because my new beau happens to share my lust for traveling. And maybe because it’s gonna be my 1st time to use Kodak Ektachrome 200 on my Nikon F6. Whatever the reason was, I’m glad it was compelling enough to make this trip come true.

From my hometown way down south in Cagayan de Oro City, I had to fly up north to Manila before I could hop on another plane to take me to Puerto Princesa. The vein of the city is basically its budding tourism industry. It is for this reason that tour packages are offered by various agencies in the city to spare visitors from the hassles of arranging trip itineraries. Although I usually go for spontaneity, I made an exception this time and availed of the Honda Bay tour.

Honda Bay is famous for its numerous islets with pristine white sand beaches. As much as I wanted to experience the bay in its entirety, we only got to dock at Pandan and Snake Islands because other tourists in the group had a plane to catch in the afternoon. Fortunately, these two islands were too beautiful, I couldn’t ask for more!

While we were approaching Pandan Island, my heart was already fluttering at the sight of the huts where we were to hold our little seafood feast. I couldn’t help but wonder how a popular tourist destination like this have managed to keep the evils of commercialization at bay.

Snake Island, named for its snake-shaped sandbar, wasn’t as inviting probably because it was around 2PM in the scorching hot afternoon and there wasn’t much shade. Still, with its powdery white sand, mangrove garden, and huge starfishes littered all over the place, Snake Island truly deserves its fame.

I should have reserved this grand escapade for my 25th or 30th birthday or something commonly considered as a significant number but what the heck? Paradise can’t wait!

Wow you had some budget for your 24th birthday! We spent our honeymoon at Puerto Princessa too but didn't get to island hop because of the crazy waves at that time. We were basically "marooned" at Dos Palmas Resort but made the most of the island's activities. Man I miss the beach!

By the end of the trip, I was really broke. Nevertheless, it was all worth it. We passed by Dos Palmas but never got to check out the place. How was it? :)

I bought this film from my friend for 6 zl, it's 3 $ so I think it's quite cheap. Great effects, I tried it on my own next summer
