Ubud, Bali: Beautiful Rice Terraces & Cultural Experiences

There is so much more to Bali than just the usual beach holidays. Go to Ubud, and have a walk around the beautiful rice terraces away from the busy city, and enjoy the amazing view and peacefulness.

After more than ten years, I went to visit Bali again for the first time as an adult and it turned out that it was such an amazing trip, much more than I expected. I grew up in Indonesia but currently living overseas, I feel like I have fallen in love with my home country again. Ubud is definitely one of the special places we visited in Bali and I was totally blown away.

Ubud is located at the centre of the island amongst the beautiful rice terraces, it is located 35km northeast of Bali’s International Airport. This place is also well known as the central place of art and craft, with great selections of different cultural activities, galleries, and art workshops.

We stayed at Abing Terrace which is this nice resort located 8km away from central Ubud. Close enough to the crowds to hang out, shop, and visit galleries, but still a quiet and peaceful place to stay away from town. Most importantly, this resort is a part of Ceking Rice Terraces. We woke up early in the morning to walk around the rice fields which were just behind our resort. It was such a nice trek and the view was just breathtaking.

Back to the central area, the main street is called Jalan Raya Ubud (which literally means Ubud main street) where you’ll also find quirky little shops, nice cafes, and restaurants. The tourist attractions we went to include The Monkey Forest, Don Antonio Blanco Museum, and Pasar Ubud (Ubud Market).

One of my favourite shops in Ubud is this super cute shop called Kou Cuisine that sells handmade jams and salt and their other shop Kou, that sells handmade soaps. We also had really good food at Pundi-Pundi and Cafe Wayan – both are highly recommended.

Ubud is definitely one of my favourite places in the world that I would go back to. Must-visit next time you plan a trip to Bali and don’t forget to bring your lomo camera!
