One of the nicest ways to see New York City is by water, and the full island cruise from Pier 83 covers everything you could possibly hope to see over a 3-hour period on the water.
The full island cruise with Circle Line Sightseeing costs around $33 and leaves Pier 83 around three times a day at regular intervals. Pier 83 is within walking distance of Macy’s and the Empire State Building so that is a handy location. Also, it is large and green and has a Statue of Liberty sign on top, so it’d be pretty hard to miss!
The tour gets pretty packed, so you are lucky if you can find a seat at the beginning, but as people move around to buy souvenirs and take photos, seats become available in different areas. The boat holds hundreds of people and a very comprehensive tour guide.
After setting off from the pier, the tour takes you up and down rivers, under bridges, and all around the isles that make up the boroughs of NYC. the whole time the guide is giving you interesting facts about the landmarks, events, and famous people who make NYC such a great city. On board the boat, you can get drinks and light snacks such as pretzels, sweets and hotdogs.
For me, this was a great trip and although some of the guests got bored outside of Manhattan and away from the huge skyscrapers, for a photo-fanatic like myself, the entire trip was packed with great photo opportunities and a kind enough guide to tell you which side you needed to focus on and when.
