Out to Sea: Take a Boat Around the Grand Harbour

Having foreign colleagues over for a conference proved to be a pleasant experience for webo29 and his cameras. Admittedly, boat tours of the Grand Harbour are a very touristy thing to do, but who’s complaining?

I’d never done it before but it was thoroughly enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it and do it again. The little boat, similar to the Venetian gondola but driven by a motor, sets off from Ta’ Liesse in Valletta and heads out towards Fort St. Angelo. It then proceeds to cruising around Vittoriosa Marina where many a luxury yacht or cabin cruiser can be admired.

Following Vittoriosa, it heads towards Dock 1, a disused ship repair dock and then heads towards Cospicua where one can wave at the people lounging on the chairs of one of the cafeterias outside.

The little cruise is very pleasant and lasts more or less 45 minutes. It’s ideal for couples, families, and small groups, although larger groups can easily divide themselves on multiple boats.

I don’t think there’s a better way to admire the beauty of the Maltese Grand Harbour and its surrounding cities than by a boat ride like this. I strongly recommend it, if not for anything else, even just for the proximity to sea and the different point of views it offers.
